This project has faced:
* Economic instability and price hikes
* Drought and water shortages
* Biogas technical delays
* Moments of reduced morale
Yet the women stayed.
They held reconciliation meetings.
They guarded the project site in shifts.
They contributed labour beyond what was required.
They extended pigsties.
They protected trees.
The UNDP Small Grants Programme speaks about generating global environmental benefits and strengthening community resilience.
In Hurungwe, resilience looks like 39 women who refuse to abandon their land even when systems fail, even when rains delay, even when progress is slower than planned.
The biogas system will function.
The 50 hectares will fully regenerate.
The pig population will continue to grow.
But already, something irreversible has happened.
Women who once walked silently for firewood now sit at the centre of climate conversations.
And that is restoration in its truest form.
