In Zimbabwe as we are approaching national elections, it is now more than ever urgent to protect and embrace equity. With the world recording progress in advancing girls and young women’s rights, and also recording some push back on the gains of the work done to date, elections time are critical and as a country we need to safeguard the gains of the struggle and ensure level playing field for young women and girls to participate in public life that includes public leadership.
As a girls and young women’s organization pushing forward for equity progress, TaLI encourages the government, civil societies and communities to:
1. Embrace equity during the election period: we envision a safe country where girls and young women are free to participate without being prejudiced. Let’s include girls and young women in decision making processes. 2. Peace and non violation of girls and young women’s rights:During the election period let us not overlook girls and young women’s issues. Let’s ensure peace and security.
Here is to leadership that is inclusive, to men and women who push the quite agenda, and to communities that are inclusive.
