Adolescence Girls and Young Women (AGYW) Africa

Adolescence Girls and Young Women (AGYW) Africa; In November 2021, TaLI launched the AGYW Africa platform. It is a place for girls and young women in Africa to bring their issues to the national agenda, as well to discuss and come up with solutions to their issues. The platform seeks to amplify the voices of adolescent girls and young women on a regional and international platform, bringing their issues to spaces such as the Commission on the Status of Women and the African Union. Following the high-level conference that was held in November 2021, a communiqué was developed and is currently being shared with the African Union, United Nations and every country’s ambassador.

Through the AGYW Africa platform solidarity meetings are hosted on a perodic basis where AGYW give feedback from their countries and map the way forward. In February 2024, the AGYW Africa network created a petition, noting the progress made and the concerns that still linger in addressing the above issues for AGYW in Africa. This petition was handed over to UN Women at the 68th Commission on the Status of Women in March, where TaLI and AGYW Africa hosted a parallel side event.
