It is good news that as Tag a Life International (TaLI) in partnership with the Czech Republic, we have launched the My Voice, Power and Freedom Project targeting young women from marginalised communities.

Today is day 1 of the 4 day training of 20 young women in Citizen Journalism so that they are equipped to have a voice in their communities especially those communities that are poor and under-represented. Young women must be given the platform and the opportunity to amplify their voices in public spaces.

To address some of the problems of lack of access to information, lack of tools to engage digitally, cyber bulling, lack of freedom of expression by young women, the training has been launched today to equip girls and young women with citizen journalism skills.

Participants are girls and young women leaders who are part of the Leadership Economic Mentorship Hubs (LEMHs) Class of 2020-2021. The leadership programme is implemented by TaLI to raise young women leaders who are ready to provide solutions in their communities while also representing their own issues and close the leadership gap that exists between women and men. Some the participants are alumni members from previous leadership classes.

The training has started with the definition of Citizen Journalism which is telling a story. The facilitator of the day, a qualified journalist, Blessed Mhlanga articulated the 7 steps to citizen journalism and ethics. Participants were divided into 4 groups and they discussed different questions as given by the facilitator and they presented back to the class. The presentations were very interactive coupled with questions and answers.
