Karen Chikonzo

Karen Chikonzo is a change-maker passionate about creating positive impact in her community. Following her attendance at the boot camp, she acquired valuable skills and knowledge that empowered her to take action. During her YELL program so far, she has organized a donation event at a children’s home in Chitungwiza, working closely with the HER Kind movement as an events planner. This experience opened her up to the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, and she engaged with the caretaker and a supporter of teen mothers, discovering that their struggles were similar.

Determined to make a meaningful difference, she acquired a practical skill by enrolling in a detergent-making course and earning certification. She then successfully trained over 300 young ladies online in financial literacy and menstrual health and hygiene through the Bright Girls Movement platform. Karen’s next step is to return to the community and empower teen mothers with the detergent-making skill, enabling them to become financially independent and self-sufficient.

Through this journey, she learned the value of community engagement, active listening, and skill-building. She realized that sustainable impact comes from equipping individuals with practical skills and knowledge. Her experience has taught her that even small actions can lead to significant positive change. Karen remains committed to continuing her community work, seeking opportunities to benefit marginalized groups, and inspiring others to join in creating a more equitable society.
