The Induction of the 2020-2021 LEMHs class took place on the 18th of December at the TaLI Belgravia offices with the aim of welcoming the newly recruited class of 25 girls and young women, to let them know what was in store for them in the one year LEMHs class ahead of them.

Each year Tag a Life International (TaLI) a girls and young women’s rights organisation recruits girls and young women for the Leadership Economic and Mentorship Hubs (LEMHs) programme. Building to this induction day; TaLI released a call for applications for the 2020-2021 class and more than 270 applications were received.

Among the applications received 25 were accepted for this LEMHs class. The girls and young women who were accepted for the LEMHs programme met the stated criteria and conditions on the call for applications while showing commitment to go through the one year leadership development, as well as becoming alumni once they have completed their one year, thus beginning a life long working relationship with TaLI. They also accepted that they were committed to being leaders in their communities in bringing change as Change Makers.

They came from under privileged communities and circumstances, as well as from tertiary institutions to promote diversity. They are young women or girls between the ages of 16 to 24 who have a passion or interest in being a leader or change maker in their community or nation.

They are excited about opportunities for young people in all areas of life and foresee themselves leading in community, civil society, government, business politics, academia or any facet of life including their own families.

They are prepared to be able to learn to stand for their own rights and that of others in the future, as well as build movements with others. They love to travel in the country or to other countries when opportunities come up as a result of their own dedication.

They are prepared to network and collaborate with fellow young women and girls, and work with their own local leaders and national leaders, as well as regional and international to advance their rights.

They are ready to be trained as a way of giving them a voice, life skills and agency to claim their rights under the ‘Youths empowered for Growth – YEG, and are ready to be supported to be change makers in their communities through ‘Youths Engaging Local Leaders – YELL’ stage as well as being supported by TaLI in their leadership journey through ‘Youths Engaging in Hubs – YEIH’; all a part of the one leadership LEMHs programme.

They look forward to be connected with mentors, women and other young women who have achieved greatly in life, or have walked a certain path whose lessons can benefit them. They are persons who have big or some dreams, who are prepared to change their own lives, most importantly, they are prepared to have some real fun!
